Eight people, including six children, were found dead inside a home in Grand Haven Township, Michigan, after a fire broke out on Friday, with some of the victims showing gunshot wounds, the Associated Press reported, citing law enforcement.

Police and fire crews responded just before noon to a house fire in the township, located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, AP reported. Once inside, they found the bodies, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jacob Sparks, who spoke at an evening news conference.

What do authorities know so far?

Sparks said officials had not yet fully identified all the victims and did not have an official cause of death for them.

The six children found dead ranged in age from 5 to 15, he said, though he did not specify how many of the eight victims had gunshot wounds. “It’s a complicated scene, a complex scene,” Sparks said, according to AP.

What are investigators looking into?

Authorities are not searching for any outside suspects, and one working theory is a murder-suicide, with everyone who lived in the home believed to be dead. Sparks said the fire appeared to have been deliberately set and was being treated as suspicious, with Michigan State Police arson investigators assisting at the scene.
