US-Iran War LIVE: Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Saturday killed nine people, including three Lebanese military personnel, according to the Lebanese army and state media. The strikes came days after Israel and Lebanon agreed to a new ceasefire deal. Meanwhile, the United States military said it intercepted Iranian missiles and drones and carried out strikes on Iranian radar sites along the southern coast, marking a fresh escalation despite an ongoing ceasefire understanding. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the actions were taken to protect maritime routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain hours after CENTCOM shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz, the statement said, adding that the attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
What has CENTCOM said? CENTCOM said US forces shot down four Iranian drones headed towards the Strait of Hormuz and later struck “coastal surveillance radar sites” in Goruk and on Qeshm Island. It also said Iran fired seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, of which six were intercepted while one failed to reach its target. The US said the drones posed a threat to shipping in the region.
