The pitch at SSC has traditionally assisted both batters and bowlers equally, making it once again a tricky affair for the team batting second. India benefited from the conditions in Galle with both bat and ball because Gill won the toss.

The win will keep India in contention for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, and for Sri Lanka it is a matter of pride to level the series at home. Another challenge Sri Lanka faces in this game is the absence of their premium batters, Dinesh Chandimal and Pathum Nissanka, as both are injured.
