Ace Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Ayush Shetty have withdrawn from China Masters Super 750 tournament. The tournament is scheduled to start from September 1 and will be the only major BWF World Tour event before the Asian Games.
Ayush, who defeated world no 1 Shi Yuqi in the first round of World Championships last week, reached the round of 16 in front of the home crowd but lost to Alwi Farhan.
With Ayush withdrawing, Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth will be the Indians in men’s singles. Lakshya suffered an upset in the second round after world no 92 Garret Tan of USA knocked him out in second round much to the disappointment of the Indian fans.
Sindhu, who lost in the round of 16 to World no 3 Wang ZhiYi of China in a thrilling battle, looked tired after the energy-sapping game and it could be one of the reasons for her withdrawal. Apart from her, Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap have also withdrawn leaving Unnati Hooda, Devika Sihag and Tanvi Sharma to lead the Indian challenge.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty, who returned from an injury layoff but were knocked out in round of 16 by eventually World champions Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, will be leading India’s challenge in men’s doubles along with Hariharan Amasukaran and Arjun MR.
However, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who created history by becoming only the second Indian women’s doubles pair to win a medal at the World Championships after Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, didn’t feature in the women’s doubles section with India having no representation.
In the mixed doubles, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto along with Rohan Kapoor- Rutvika Shivani will represent India.

India continued the streak of winning medals at every World Championships since 2011 as the marquee event concluded yesterday in the national capital.
