In China, at least 16 people have died and 546 remain missing, according to state broadcaster CCTV. At least 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries are among those missing, including 104 Nepalis, 49 Indians, 33 Latvians, 18 Americans and 15 Britons.

Rescue operations have been hampered by difficult terrain and extensive debris, with several flood-hit areas cut off from aid and emergency teams struggling to reach those stranded. Meanwhile, China has warned of continued rainfall in the disaster-hit region, raising concerns that rising water levels in a barrier lake could trigger further flooding.

At least 933 workers are believed to be trapped at around half a dozen hydropower projects in Nepal following last week’s devastating floods, the country’s disaster management authority said on Monday.
