The US Embassy in Iran has issued an urgent warning advising American citizens to leave Iran immediately, citing escalating tensions and potential security risks. The alert comes ahead of US-Iran talks in Oman, focusing on Iran’s nuclear program and regional security concerns. Communications blackouts, transport disruptions, and risks of questioning or detention are mounting, and the US government may not be able to provide assistance.

In a strong advisory issued on Friday, the US Department of State said growing unrest, limits on communication and uncertain travel options have made it unsafe for Americans to remain in Iran.

“US citizens should depart Iran immediately,” the department said, adding that those who stay should not expect assistance from the US government.

The warning was issued through the Virtual US Embassy in Iran, which said conditions on the ground could change quickly and put people at risk.

“US citizens should not rely on the US government for assistance in departing Iran,” the advisory said. It warned that transport links could be disrupted without notice and access to basic services may be restricted.

The State Department said Americans should make their own plans to leave while commercial options are still available.

The advisory cited rising security concerns across Iran, along with restrictions on internet and phone services, which could make it difficult for people to seek help or receive updates.

It also warned that airports, borders and roads could close with little warning, making evacuation harder if people delay leaving.
