Dubai news lives updates: On her way to Birmingham for the prestigious All England Open starting on Tuesday, star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is stuck at Dubai airport, while the Indian basketball team that is in Doha, Qatar unable to proceed with their onward travel after operations were suspended in multiple cities following missile strikes by Israel and the US on Iran. In a post on X, Sindhu said, “The ordeal continues to unfold, and the situation is becoming more frightening by the hour. A few hours ago, there was an explosion close to where we were holed up at the airport. My coach had to quickly run out of the area as he was closest to the smoke and debris. It was an extremely tense and scary moment for all of us. We are all safe now and have been moved to a more secure place, thanks to the tireless efforts of the staff at Dubai Airport and the Dubai authorities. A special thanks as well to the Indian High Commission in Dubai for their incredible support and constant assistance in helping keep us safe. For now, we are trying to get some rest and hold on to hope as we wait for things to settle.” After US and Israel launched a major attack on Iran on Saturday, Tehran responded with retaliatory tactics by launching strikes against US allies in the Middle East region, as the UAE was struck with ta hird wave of Iranian missiles. Flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) were suspended on Saturday. Reports suggested that Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, was evacuated amid the continuing strikes in the UAE.
UAE Defence Ministry on Iran strikes: The air defence systems in the UAE intercepted a barrage of Iranian missiles and drones launched towards the country on Saturday, the country’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement. The ministry further added that debris of missiles and drones intercepted by the country’s air defence systems fell in several areas in Abu Dhabi and Dubai; however, no injuries were reported, Gulf News stated.

Dubai airport operations: Amid the strikes in the region, two of Dubai’s busiest aviation hubs, namely Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC), suspended their operations until further notice. The Dubai Media Office, in a post on X, advised the passengers not to travel to the airport during this time and to contact their respective airlines directly for the latest updates regarding their flights. According to the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE, a temporary partial closure of the country’s airspace has been implemented as a “precautionary measure” in response to Iranian missile strikes.
