US President Trump marked the eve of America’s 250th anniversary with address at Mount Rushmore, followed by a fireworks display kicking off a nationwide weekend of celebrations. Taking the stage just after 11 p.m. ET, Trump hailed the country as “the most successful, most accomplished, most exceptional nation ever to exist in human history,” even as dangerous heat forced organizers elsewhere to scale back festivities Philadelphia canceled its parade and Washington briefly shut down the Great American State Fair on the National Mall.

What does America 250 actually mark: July 4, 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the day the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia, formally announcing the 13 American colonies’ break from British rule. Independence Hall in Philadelphia, where the document was adopted, remains central to this year’s celebrations, alongside sites tied to the Revolutionary War such as Fort Ticonderoga and Saratoga in New York, and Thomas Jefferson’s estate, Monticello, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Organizers have said this year’s events will also spotlight Indigenous and African American history alongside the traditional Revolutionary War narrative, aiming to reflect a broader account of the nation’s founding.

Who’s Performing at this year’s celebrations? The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will host one of the flagship “Block Party” events on July 4, featuring performances by Chris Stapleton, The Smashing Pumpkins, Maren Morris and Anthony Ramos, with Chaka Khan as a special guest, according to NBC Los Angeles. Queen Latifah will host the evening, which will close with a fireworks and drone show. Tickets are priced at $17.76, a reference to the year of the Declaration’s signing. In South Florida, performers including Shaggy, Ashanti, Ja Rule, 112 and The Fray are set to headline Miami’s “250 United” celebration, which runs into a midnight fireworks display, according to CBS Miami.
