Shooting (MEDAL): Rudrankksh Patil finished 3rd, Himanshu Dhillon 7th to make the final in men’s 10m air rifle individual, and Parth Manefinishes 11th as India win silver in the team final. Then, Himanshu claimed a silver while Rudrankksh took a bronze in the individual 10m air event.
MMA (MEDAL and CONTROVERSY): Suchika Tariyal was forced to accept a bronze medal in the MMA event in the women’s traditional 60kg against Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon after the contest ended in a draw. The officials used their morning weight in numbers to determine the winners. Teo Hui Hoon was 700kg lighter, so she progressed to the final, while Suchika Tariyal got a bronze.
Kabaddi: Indian men’s team defeated Japan 49-23 in Men’s Group A match to start their title defence. On the same day, the Indian women also opened their campaign with a 42-21 win over Bangladesh.
Boxing: Sumit beat Bunjong Sinsiri by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the men’s 70kg Round of 32 bout.
Hockey: Indian women’s hockey team thumped Indonesia 17-1 in a group stage game with the 22-year-old Deepika (8th, 28th, 40th minutes), who scored eight goals in India’s 19-0 drubbing of Uzbekistan in the lung-opener, converting three penalty corners, while Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (15th, 20th, 38th) found the net thrice from field play. Navneet’s goals came in the 35th, 56th and 57th minutes.
Soft tennis: Aadhya Tiwari and Jay Meena’s promising campaign in the Asian Games soft tennis mixed doubles event came to an end in the round of 16 after a hard-fought 2-5 loss to Philippines’ Christy Sanosa and Sherwin Ray Nuguit. Previously in the group stage clashes, Aadhya-Jay beat Cambodia’s Viva Chao-Chanroseka Khun 5-0 in mixed doubles Group B match and then beat Mongolia’s Bud Nyamdorj-Enkhkhuslen Ganbaatar. They lost one match in the group stage round to South Korea’s Kim Yeon-hwa-Jaekyu Park
Wushu – Nyeman Wangsu finished 15th in women’s Changquan final out of 16 competitors.
Swimming: Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke final while Rishabh Das will be a reserve.
