Modi-Trump meet at G7 Summit 2026 | Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of Indian seafarers’ safety in talks with US President Donald Trump, days after an American missile hit an oil vessel in the Gulf, killing three Indians.

During a press interaction ahead of a key bilateral meeting with the US President, PM Modi told Trump: “We have always said that freedom of navigation should be ensured and we should also stress upon that. Lakhs of Indian seafarers are on duty in different seas of the world in the sector of maritime trade. I believe that their security is equally important…I am confident that in the deal (with Iran) security of seafarers will be ensured and prioritised…”.

Trump on India’s role in West Asia war: When asked about the role India may play in the ongoing West Asia crisis, Donald Trump said that as long as Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India, the country will have a very big role in the ongoing conflict. Responding to the question, Trump said, “Yeah, I do. I do. I think India plays a big role in everything, as long as he’s the leader.” Praising PM Modi, Trump also said, “He’s the most beautiful looking man. He looks so nice. He’s like an angel, but actually he’s a killer. I don’t want to use that word, killer. He’s as tough as they come, but he looks so good. So he gets you by surprise.”

Modi urges economies  to move beyond numbers as growth criteria: “The reality today is – when it comes to growth, the question should not be about GDP or trade numbers,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the G7 Outreach Session in France, challenging conventional measures of economic progress and advocated for a more inclusive approach to development. He added that the more important questions are: “Growth for whom, with whom and in what direction?” PM also highlighted India’s “humanity-first” approach to global cooperation, citing initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance and Mission Life as examples of India’s contribution to global development.
