Harmanpreet Singh and Dilpreet Singh helped India come from 1-0 down in the first half to end it with a 2-1 lead. However, Stuart Rushmere, who has been a thorn in the back for India throughout the match, and Henry Croft then scored two stunning goals in the third quarter to help England rush to a 3-2 lead. They then scored another in the final quarter thus winning the match 4-2.

The result has put England through to the next round. India, on the other hand, need to beat Pakistan in their next pool match to ensure a passage to Round 2. However, a draw in that match would be enough for them to go through if Wales somehow upset England in their next match.

India’s rivalry against England isn’t spoken about in the same terms as some of their more storied rivalries in the sport but it isn’t one to be ignored. Since the last time these two teams (either as England or Great Britain) met at a World Cup in the Netherlands back in June 2014, 11 out of the 24 games have been decided by a margin of one goal, while 10 have ended in a draw. There is rarely much daylight between these two teams.
