Harmanpreet Singh and Dilpreet Singh helped India come from 1-0 down in the first half to end it with a 2-1 lead. However, Stuart Rushmere, who has been a thorn in the back for India throughout the match, and Henry Croft then scored two stunning goals in the third quarter to help England rush to a 3-2 lead. India are now trying to get themselves back on top in the final quarter of what has been a sensational match.
India face England in their second match of the men’s hockey World Cup with the hope of having the kind of success that they had against them as they did against their next-door neighbours Wales in their opening game. India were as dominant as they were expected to be for much of the match but Wales slowly grow into the game towards the end, denying Harmanpreet Singh’s side a clean sheet.

India’s rivalry against England isn’t spoken about in the same terms as some of their more storied rivalries in the sport but it isn’t one to be ignored. Since the last time these two teams (either as England or Great Britain) met at a World Cup in the Netherlands back in June 2014, 11 out of the 24 games have been decided by a margin of one goal, while 10 have ended in a draw. There is rarely much daylight between these two teams.
