India face the mighty Netherlands in their first match of the second round at the 2026 Women’s Hockey World Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands. India, ranked ninth in the world, have impressed thus far in the campaign, finishing the first round unbeaten to go through to the second round. However, they now face the might of World No.1 Netherlands, who won all three matches that they played in the first round and scored as many as 15 goals.

India came into the Women’s Hockey World Cup without too many hopes riding on them considering the lack of direction and stability they have endured going into it. However, they have exceeded expectations to a certain extent by finishing the group stage unbeaten. Two of those matches were gritty draws against China and England and one ended in a 6-1 win over South Africa.
