Inside Doha meeting: Qatar PM, Jared Kushner, & US envoy push to salvage US-Iran peace deal

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, on Tuesday (Jun 30), met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Senior Adviser to US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, to have discussions around the ongoing US-Iran negotiations within the framework of the 14-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The meeting focused on advancing negotiations between Washington and Tehran, alongside recent regional developments, said Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met on Tuesday with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US Envoys. The meeting discussed developments in the ongoing talks between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran within the framework of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties, along with the efforts aimed at promoting security and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy,” the ministry said.

The talks also covered recent developments in the region and the Lebanon ceasefire.
“The meeting also addressed the latest regional developments, particularly the ceasefire in the fraternal Republic of Lebanon, stressing the importance of consolidating it and building upon it in a way that preserves Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and stability,” said the statement.
The Qatari PM further reaffirmed that his country will continue playing the role of mediator and supporting the diplomatic efforts stemming from the MoU between Washington and Tehran.
“The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasised the State of Qatar’s continued mediation efforts and its support for all tracks of talks stemming from the MoU, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable solution that enhances the security of the region, protects the interests of its peoples, and supports international peace and security,” the statement said.
Iran refuses to meet US envoys, clouding prospects for peace deal
Iran said that it would not meet the top US envoys who travelled to the region following the recent hostilities, clouding prospects for a lasting peace between the nations.

Iranian officials further said that the two sides must first resolve outstanding ceasefire terms before addressing more contentious topics, including possible limits on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Tehran’s nuclear rights and red lines are “non-negotiable”, further affirming that his country would not move to the next stage of negotiations until the crucial commitments made in the 14-point MoU with the US are fulfilled.
“We prioritised the issue of Lebanon, and today you see that relative calm has been established there. The follow-up is serious, and the talks are still ongoing, and until these five clauses, one of the most important of which is the issue of Lebanon, are consolidated and finalised, we will not enter the next stage of implementing the other clauses of the memorandum of understanding,” Ghalibaf said in a televised interview, according to ISNA.
