Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Funeral Live Updates: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards fired at least two missiles at commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, Axios reported, citing two US officials, adding that both vessels suffered significant damage but there were no casualties. Separately, Britain’s maritime security agency said a tanker caught fire early Tuesday after being struck by an unknown projectile on its port side while travelling south about 8 nautical miles east of Oman’s Limah, with no casualties or environmental impact reported. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the Axios report or confirm whether the ships mentioned in it included the tanker cited in the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency’s advisory.
The developments came as hundreds of thousands of mourners gathered in Tehran on Monday, hoping to catch a glimpse of the coffin of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as his multi-day funeral continued.
