Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra claimed a silver medal while Yash Vir Singh claimed bronze for India in the men’s javelin throw event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Friday night. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold.
Neeraj’s best throw was 85.83m, but what was heartening is that the first four of his throws all crossed the 80m mark. Neeraj is still fighting to come back to his best shape after spending many months recovering from injury post the World Championship last year. Meanwhile, Yash Vir Singh managed 85.41m with his final throw of the night to surge into bronze place spot. It was his personal best.

Meanwhile, reigning Olympic champion and the defending champion from Birmingham 2022, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, was eliminated after just three throws!

On Wednesday, in the qualification round, Neeraj finished fifth with a best effort of 79.61m while Rohit (78.37m) and Yash Vir (78.36m) ended the in ninth and tenth positions respectively.
