Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary and Sachin Siwach have won India six gold medals in boxing on Saturday at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow while Jadumani Singh and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain claimed silver medals. There are two more boxers from India to take the canvas shortly.
Thanks to this medal haul from the Indian boxers, the nation rose from sixth spot in the standings to four, past hosts Scotland in the medals tally.
This is just the start of India’s medal glut from the boxing ring with eight more boxers slotted to compete in the finals today in various weight classes. The Indian contingent will be led by Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, who has only had to fight once after getting the luck of the draw. India had sent 14 boxers to Glasgow, 10 of them made the semis, all 10 of whom made it to the finals.
