US President Donald Trump, during a bilateral meeting at the White House with Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi on Tuesday, said that he doesn’t like the “concept of a fee” for the Strait of Hormuz, adding that no one should be able to charge a fee for transiting the strategic waterway. He welcomed the investments being made by the Gulf nations instead of the fee.
In a post on Truth Social, the US President earlier wrote, “The Strait of Hormuz is open to ALL Ship traffic except for Iran — and that is because of their lying, violent, malicious leadership, which is taking them down the path of TOTAL DESTRUCTION.”

US-Iran conflict intensifies
The developments came as the US launched a third consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran, saying the attacks were aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump also announced a renewed naval blockade of Iranian ports and a 20 per cent cargo toll for vessels transiting the strait. Iran responded by claiming strikes on US military sites in Kuwait and warning that any American role in managing the strait would be treated as an act of war.
