The head of Iran’s parliamentary National Security Committee has warned of a ‘strong response’ after an Israeli strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, Reuters reported.
Trump calls for restraint amid peace deal talks: US President Donald Trump criticised Israel’s latest strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, saying it came at a sensitive stage when negotiations with Iran were close to a breakthrough. Calling the attack unnecessary, Trump said the incident Israel responded to was “very small and meaningless” and caused no deaths or injuries. He said a deal that could bring peace to the region, including Lebanon, was near, and urged all sides to exercise restraint.
Iran doubts US commitments after fresh Israeli strike on Beirut: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Israel’s latest operation showed the US either lacks the will or ability to honour its commitments. Accusing the US of giving Israel a “green light” while seeking concessions from Tehran, he said “good cop, bad cop” approach is outdated and Iran does not separate Israeli actions from broader US policy and warned that diplomacy would be difficult if the US failed to uphold its commitments.
Israel attacks Lebanon as draft deal comes close: The Israeli military said it carried out a “precise strike” on a Hezbollah command centre in Beirut. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz said the attack was in response to Hezbollah fire, adding that Israel “will not tolerate” attacks on its territory and would respond with military action.
Draft agreement on Hormuz, nuclear programme and sanctions: A senior Iranian official told Reuters that a draft US-Iran memorandum would require Tehran to commit not to develop nuclear weapons and freeze its current nuclear programme until a final deal is reached. The proposal also calls for Iran to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, while the US would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports and ease sanctions.
