US Supreme Court overturns Trump tariffs: The US Supreme Court has scrapped the imposition of arbitrary tariffs on different countries. It ruled that US President Donald Trump did not have the power to impose global tariffs under the old emergency law, International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Citing a CNBC report and White House officials, the US administration has reduced tariffs on India to 10% from the earlier 18% after the US Supreme Court struck down the so-called ‘Trump Tariffs’.
Court says only Congress can approve import taxes: The court decided by a 6–3 majority that only Congress can approve broad import taxes, and the law used by the White House does not allow such tariffs. This decision overturns much of the tariff policy that affected imports from many countries.

Trump says will impose 10% global tariffs by executive order: US President Trump has reacted strongly calling the ruling “unfair” and describing it as a “disgrace”. He said justices who voted against what he described as a ‘very acceptable and proper method of TARIFFS’ should be “ashamed”. He criticised two justices he appointed, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, and also took aim at Chief Justice John Roberts. Trump further said he would impose 10% global tariff and would sign an executive order using Section 122, which was created by 1974 Trade Act. President Donald Trump announced a fresh 10% global tariff. He later signed an executive order to bring the new worldwide duty into effect.
