The Central Command said US forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran at 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday. According to CENTCOM on X, the strikes came after recent attempted attacks by the IRGC targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American service members deployed in the region.
Former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will stand down as a member of parliament, his local newspaper reported on Tuesday. “I will now focus on other things and that will be international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast-changing world,” the Camden New Journal quoted Starmer as saying.

US President Trump on Monday accused Iran of killing over 100,000 protesters and called it a “Failed Nation,” hours after the US struck two Iranian launch systems on Larak Island. In a Truth Social post, he claimed Iran has no functioning navy, air force or currency, cannot pay its soldiers or police, and faces 300% inflation, adding that its leaders “must be tried for war crimes against humanity.”
Tensions between the US and Iran escalated further as President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz remains in what he called “extremely good shape,” while claiming Iran’s economy, military and leadership have been significantly weakened. Trump added that despite the current state of affairs, the US hasn’t ruled out further strikes, warning it “doesn’t mean we won’t smack them to see what happens.”
The remarks came as Iran said it had launched attacks on US bases in Jordan and on American military targets at the Al Menhad airbase in the United Arab Emirates, in retaliation for a US strike on rocket launchers at Iran’s Larak Island.
The UAE’s Defence Ministry pushed back on the claim, denying that Al Menhad airbase had been targeted. Iranian state media reported that the US strike on Larak Island killed three people and wounded several Iranian fighters and civilians.
