Xi said that the situation of the Gulf region in the Middle East was at a critical juncture between war and peace, and all hostilities must end immediately. The leaders agreed to extend a friendship treaty that was first signed in 2001, according to Chinese state media. Days after US President Donald Trump visited China, Xi held bilateral talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and discussed key global issues, including Iran, the Ukraine war, and trade relations, according to news agency PTI. This is Putin’s first foreign visit of 2026. The talks assume significance as both leaders met days after US President Donald Trump visited Beijing and held extensive discussions with Xi on issues such as Iran and the Ukraine war, bilateral trade frictions, and regional developments.
